CLACTON Golf Club’s seniors travelled to Harwich and Dovercourt Golf Club, for the away part of their 2016 match.

Captain Tony Burnside led a team that consisted of Doug Nichols, Derek Woodrow, Ray Crossfield, John Crick, Peter Wiggins, Malcolm Pitcher, Dave Aylott, Malcolm Taylor, Dave Mills, Laurie Farrugia, John Fisher, John Stuck, Mick Curwood, Ray Fage and John Willson.

Following lunch, it was announced that Harwich had won by 6½ matches to 1½.

Meanwhile, Clacton captain Joe Middleton welcomed Sandro Dos Santos, from Cancer Research UK, to receive a cheque for £3,350.

It was money that had been collected during his year in office.

In his presentation speech, Middleton thanked the seniors’ section for all their support.

Clacton’s male members played their March medal.

In division one, for handicaps of 12 and below, the winner was Paul Millard, returning an excellent card of 75-8-67.

In second was Simon Barns, with 81-12-69, on countback from third-placed Billy Leonard, with 76-7-69.

In division two, for handicaps of 13 and above, the winner was Perry Richards, with 82-14-68.

Second place went to Daniel Howard-King, with 84-15-69, on countback from third-placed past captain Malcolm Taylor, with 82-13-69.

Clacton’s ladies’ section held their annual Grandmothers’ Cup and the winner was Jacky Bright, with 30 points.

She won on countback from Brenda Lord, while Angela Barratt was third, with 29. Clacton’s junior section played the O’Boyle Shield and the winner was Max Smith, with a bogey score of plus two.

In second was Katy Yates, on countback from third-placed George Fuller.

Henry Goodwin finished fourth.

Clacton’s juniors competed for the Yates Trophy.

The silverware was presented to the club by Steve Yates and this year won by Henry Goodwin, with 40 points.

In second was Wilf Elliott, with 35, and in third was Katy Yates, with 32, on countback from Max Smith.
