WITH both of their sides being without a fixture, Clacton played their Tony Cook memorial match on Saturday.

Cookie, as everyone knew him, was a trustee of the club and had been their president for the last ten years.

Sadly, he passed away last August and it was always the intention to hold a match in his memory.

Despite it being the Easter holiday weekend, nearly 50 present and former players got together for a game of rugby and a few drinks afterwards.

Shane Jerram had organised the playing side and simply split the two groups into reds and blues.

Matt Mahoney took on the refereeing duties and, despite the biting wind, both sets of players and spectators had an enjoyable afternoon.

After the final whistle, everyone retreated to the warmth of the clubhouse where Adrian Nation provided the post-match entertainment that extended well into the evening.

On Saturday, both Clacton sides play their final league fixtures of the season.

The first team travel to Stanford-le-Hope where they will take on Pegasus Palmerians, in an Essex League Shield fixture.

When the two sides met at Vista Road in November, the outcome was a 19-19 draw.

Meanwhile, the Kestrels will be at Vista Road to round off their Eastern Counties League season and a visit from Thurston twos.

Both games kick-off at 3pm.
