CLACTON Water Polo Club ended their Eastern Winter League season with an away match against Basildon.

Playing in the huge Basildon Sporting Village pool, and with a bare minimum of seven players, it was destined to be a hard match – but one that they were still confident of winning.

In the event, Clacton’s 100 per cent record in the league was never in doubt as the young home side were no match for their vast experience.

The 12-3 victory did not reflect just how dominant the champions were as some poor shooting in the last two quarters prevented an ever higher goal tally.

The overall standard of the league has been disappointing, with Clacton the runaway champions and never looking in trouble in any of their matches.

With 160 goals scored and only 45 conceded, it gave an average 14-goal margin of victory for each game, reflecting the gulf between them and other teams.

Hopefully there will be some tougher competition in the summer leagues, or in the cup, where Clacton will start with a large goal deficit on handicap.
