A GIRLS’ football team have booked their place in a national cup final.

The under-13s team from Clacton County High School are representing Chelsea in the FA Premier League National Schools tournament.

After being successful in the Essex round, they recently took part in the Southern Counties final at Chelsea’s Cobham training ground where they took on the county champions from London, Surrey, Hampshire and Wiltshire.

The competition was divided into two rounds, with each team playing the others twice.

The Clacton girls were lying second after the first round of games, having won all but one match.

In their second game against Cains Hill School, from Hampshire, the CCHS team were 2-0 down with minutes to go but stormed back to win 4-2.

With their heads high, they faced Magna Carta School, from Surrey, and managed a 4-1 win.

Only a single game against Wiltshire’s John of the Gaunt School now stood between CCHS and the title and they duly managed an 8-0 victory.

The girls team will now represent Chelsea in the Schools’ Premier League final, which this year is being held at Everton’s Goodison Park in May.

The girls now receive a full Chelsea kit and fully expenses paid trip to the final, including an overnight stay, ahead of the national finals.
