PRIOR to the start of the season I, on behalf of the club, answered a series of ‘fan questions’ for a Thurlow Nunn League season preview which was being put together by ECL Uncovered, an unofficial website focusing on all things Thurlow Nunn League.

I’m sure you’ve seen the sort of thing.

A fan of each club is asked questions such as “where do you think your team will finish in the league this year?” or “who do you think your team’s most important player will be this term?,” with the answers generally found in the smallest possible print in a box at the bottom of the page, or in an equally hard-to-view sidebar (not like this one, obviously!).

Now, call it pre-season optimism if you will, but when it came to predicting where we would end up in the league come the end of the season, I found myself mentioning the words “top-ten finish”.

It might have seemed crazy, especially when you consider how things had gone for us generally during 2014/15, but I, unusually for me, was optimistic.

We’d shown at the back end of that season that we were capable of giving a good showing of ourselves against the better sides in the division, and I saw no reason why we couldn’t, on our day, beat most of the mid-table ones.

Either way, I was staggered when the website’s own ‘secret manager’, who supposedly had management experience in both divisions of the league, suggested we would finish rock bottom of the pile!

Fast forward to February, and it would seem that mine was the better prediction of the two.

A win on Saturday at home to Swaffham may even take us into the top ten, but if it doesn’t, with such a congested middle of the table, and with games against a number of the sides involved in that packed middle area to come, it’s certainly an achievable goal.

And what an achievement it would be!

Please join us at the Bowl on Saturday, and come on you Seasiders!
