SEVENTY members of Clacton Golf Club set out to play in the Seniors’ January Stableford.

The winner was Bill Highstead, with 42 points.

In second was Terry Linehan, with 41, and in third was Ray Justice, with 39.

The course is holding up well this winter, under the expert eyes of head greenkeeper Alan Smith and his hard-working team, and this was reflected in the scores.

Meanwhile, Clacton’s men played their eighth winter Top Dogs competition on Sunday morning.

The winners were Peter Hewett and Alf Smith, with 43 stableford points, on countback from second-placed Mark Armson and Andy Moore.

In third place were junior captain Josh Bethell and David Wilding, with 42 points.

Clacton’s junior section played their January stableford on Saturday morning.

The winner was Wilf Elliott, with 39 points.

In second was Henry Goodwin, with 35, and in third was George Fuller, with 32.

Clacton’s lady members played a strings stableford competition and the winner was Jackie Bright, with 32 points.

In second was Brenda Lord, with 30, and in third was Denise Pink, with 28.

In fourth place was Kath Sinnott, with 26.
