I was quite happy with ten minutes to go!

Though not at Saturday’s game with Godmanchester, I was being kept in the loop and was quite satisfied that we were looking good for a point, as the match entered its final stages.

Sadly, the visitors would then score three times in the last seven minutes to give themselves a 4-1 victory and the scoreline a somewhat flattering look.

I suppose all you can say is that at least it wasn’t 11-3, as it had been against the same opposition just over a year earlier!

Tuesday saw a hastily-arranged friendly versus Weeley Athletic take place at the Bowl.

Our side on the evening contained a mixture of both reserve and first-team players, with familiar faces such as Luke Avenell, Max Kirby, Adam Daniels, Mark White, Charlie Thompson and Karl Andrade all playing the full 90 minutes.

Dan Smith had a 30-minute run-out as he continued his return to fitness and youngsters Ollie Law and Luke Barnard also made appearances.

Barnard, who has been prolific in front of goal for our under-21s this season, would find the net late on in the 2-1 victory, tapping the ball home from close range.

This was after Karl had given us an early lead, thanks to a cracking 25-yard free-kick that curled in off the post, prior to the visitors drawing level from the penalty spot, around ten minutes before half-time.

Though the result was not the most important aspect, it was nice to pick up the win and hopefully David (Coyle) and the players will have gained what they were looking for from the evening.

It’s an important few weeks coming up for the first team, with opportunities to get points on the board, starting with Saturday’s trip to Walsham-le-Willows.

With both Saffron Walden and Swaffham breathing down our necks as we look to secure FCC’s highest-ever league position of 14th, a win against Walsham, who currently sit in the bottom three, would be ideal.

Let’s hope we’re celebrating three points on Saturday evening.

Come on you Seasiders!
