CLACTON Indoor Bowls Club hosted an annual match between the Essex County Indoor Bowling Association and the Essex Vice-Presidents’ Association.

After winning on five of the six rinks, Essex County scored 140 shots compared to the Vice-Presidents’ 91.

The top rink players for Essex County were Colin Bridge (Falcon), Ken Barrett (Jacks Centre), Ted Moore (Clacton) and Mike Ferris (Turpin’s).

The Vice-Presidents’ top rink players were Michael Shelley (Colchester), David Johnson (Essex County), Reg Harrington (Stonyhill) and Brian Littlewood (West Mersea).

Following the match, Essex County president Gordon Barrett presented colts badges to Alan Baxter and Moore, both from Clacton, who had played in their first match for Essex.

Meanwhile, the county under-25 team had a good win in the first round of the national double rink competition, beating a strong team from Sussex by 41 shots to 37.

Both rinks won by two shots.
