BANCROFT 22

CLACTON 12

Essex League division one

SATURDAY resulted in a second league defeat for Clacton Rugby Club as they went down to Bancroft.

Tries from Tom Nation and Jon Vine, along with an Aaron Redpath conversion, kept the Seasiders in the game at Buckhurst Hill until the last 20 minutes.

However, they now have to regroup for their next match.

That is at Vista Road this coming Saturday, when Ilford Wanderers are the visitors (kick-off 2pm).

It was a better outcome for the second team, the Kestrels.

They travelled across the Strood causeway to Mersea Island Rhinos for their Eastern Counties division three south fixture with a full complement of players and were even able to lend a couple to the opposition.

The outcome was something of a try-fest, with a hat-trick from Keenan Wood leading the way.

Other names on the scoresheet were Jacob Lee (two), Shane Scott (two), Jem Lonsdale, Glenn Doolin, Andy Luton, Dan Land, James Baldock and Stephen Baldock and the final score was 71-15.

Both teams are also grateful to Pete Doolin, who stepped in at the last moment following the non-arrival of the appointed referee and ensured the game went ahead.

The Kestrels are on the road again this Saturday when they travel to Halstead Templars (2pm kick-off).
