CLACTON Rugby Club played their final pre-season game on Saturday, when the Kestrels travelled to Colchester.

The result was a comfortable win for the hosts.

However, the game against a mixed squad was played over four quarters and enabled everyone to have a run-out, before the season starts in earnest.

Both Clacton sides are in league action this Saturday.

Clacton’s first team open their Essex League programme with a visit from Braintree.

Both sides suffered relegation last season.

The Seasiders finished second from bottom in London League division three, while Braintree had to pull out of London League division two in February.

Clacton’s Kestrels open their Eastern Counties League division three south campaign with a visit to Thurston.

Both games kick-off at the earlier time of 2pm.

With the Rugby World Cup getting under way tomorrow, the RFU have decreed that other Saturday games should start earlier, enabling visiting teams to get back to their own clubhouses to watch the games on TV.
