PAST junior captain Ben Rendell was crowned champion at Clacton-on-Sea Golf Club’s Junior Club Championship.

The current Essex County under-16 team captain won the 36-hole event after returning gross scores of 71-77, for a 36-hole total of 148.

Riley Faulkner won the gold division (74-78=152), while Chloe Simper triumphed in the silver division (115-110-225).

Josh Bethell claimed the prize for the best nett score, after carding a total nett of 144.

Clacton-on-Sea’s ladies’ section contested the Lady Captain’s Rosebowl competition.

Maxine Baker won with 38 stableford points from her 34 handicap, which is now reduced to 31.

Pat Gilbert was runner-up with 36 points from her 34 handicap (now 32).

In third place on countback was Lorna Forder with 35 points from her 32 handicap (now 31).

She finished ahead of fourth-placed Chris Crossfield, who reduced her handicap by one shot to 21.

More than 70 of Clacton-on-Sea’s seniors contested their August Medal from the club’s White tees.

Barry Lungius (87-18-69) won ahead of Norman Messenger (84-14-70).

Messenger was second on countback ahead of vice-captain Tony Burnside (82-12-70) while Alan J Clarke was fourth (77-6-71).

Clacton-on-Sea lost their Essex County Youth Shield quarter-final match 4-1 against Orsett, staged at Benton Hall.

Orsett were scratch to five handicap compared to Clacton’s six to 15 handicap, although they did not apply in this scratch competition.

Clacton’s Max Smith lost his match as did Katy Yates, who was beaten 2&1 despite playing well against her two-handicap opponent.

Riley Falkener won two-up against his three-handicap opponent but Josh Bethell and Rhys Scotcher both lost their matches.

Orsett will now play Rochford GC at Thorndon Park GC, in their last-four clash. The other semi-final between Chelmsford and Thorndon Park will be played at Clacton-on-Sea.
