CLACTON played their last game before the Eastern League summer break and beat Cambridge 9-5.

As Cambridge are one of the few East Anglian teams in the National League, they expected one of their toughest tests of the year.

In previous matches, Clacton have got off to a slow start, but, on this occasion, they attacked from the first whistle.

Cambridge were taken by surprise and goals from Dann Hunn, Neil Coles and Robert Eastman (three) gave the Seasiders a 5-0 lead.

Cambridge are a strong side and with their captain, former Great Britain international Andy Knight, leading by example, they began to get back in the match.

With Clacton defending the deep-end goal, Cambridge became more positive, scoring twice before Robert Eastman and Coles netted to make it 7-2.

The third and fourth quarters were evenly matched, with Cambridge scoring three to only two from the Seasiders.

The final score of 9-5 to Clacton highlighted the importance of that first dynamic quarter.

Team (goals in brackets): Mick Eastman, Robert Eastman (4), Neil Coles (3), Dan Hunn (1), Ian Westlake (1), Adrian Westlake (1), Nick Westlake, Mick Rodwell, Neil Green.
