SUZANNE Warren powered to four medals and three potential British records at the ninth East Region Disability Championships.

The Holland-on-Sea swimmer travelled with teamipswich club-mates Elise Martin-de-la-Torre, Olivia Abbott and Stephen Emery to the event in Newmarket.

She had a day of great success, starting with a silver medal in the 200 metres freestyle and then a gold in the 50m backstroke.

Warren then came second in the 50m butterfly and 100m freestyle.

In addition, her times in the 200m freestyle, 50m backstroke and 50m butterfly were all below the current British records.

She is now awaiting confirmation that they are all new bests.

“It was a very long day, but worth it,” said Warren, who won last year’s Tendring Female Sports Personality Award.

“To be successful and see your team-mates and friends within the region also improve is great.

“It really helps when we get to the short-course and international events.

“Our (teamipswich) elite squad have made so many improvements and we showed great team work.

“In training, everyone works hard and we have great coaches in Ryan Crouch, Carol Jenning and Nigel Abbott.

“As a group, we’re really supportive of each other and we’ve all performed amazingly well.

“Between us, seven personal bests, three golds, six silvers, three bronzes and – hopefully – three new records is a fantastic achievement.

“It shows that as a club we’re improving, because we’ve worked hard on technical aspects, alongside speed and endurance work.”

Warren also took part in the 50m breaststroke.

This was for classification purposes, because she has experienced deterioration in her physical impairment.

She knew it would be an achievement just to finish the race.

Afterwards it was confirmed that she will now compete as an S4 swimmer, rather than S5.

“A classification review is always stressful,” said the 36-year-old.

“I can only use one arm for breaststroke and both legs drag, so it’s like trying to pull through thick mud.”

Earlier this year Warren powered her way into two finals at the British Para-Swimming International Meet, in Glasgow.
