HISTORY was made in a special schools athletics competition.

Market Field School, based in Elmstead Market, pulled off a dramatic victory to win the silverware for the first time in their history.

Four schools took part in the Mid Essex Schools Sport Association (MESSA) event and youngsters took part in track and field contests at the Garrison, in Colchester.

The final points tally was also the closest-ever, with most age groups being separated by one point.

Market Field won with 136 points.

Brentwood’s The Endevour School were second, with 128.

“It was great day,” said organiser Kierran Pearce.

“It was the first time in 26 years Market Field School have won the famous MESSA Shield. All the children involved should be so proud of themselves and events like this show anything is possible.”
