IAIN Quick proved his mettle by winning Frinton Golf Club’s Hamilton Scratch medal and Alfred Symes Cup, played simultaneously on Good Friday.

His gross score was 77, with a 70 nett.

In the Hamilton Scratch, Kevin Smith came in second, with 79, and Ian Chamberlain was third, with 78.

In the Alfred Symes Cup, second place went to David Roberts, on countback, with 71 nett, ahead of Scott Boyle.

The Famous Grouse and Greybeard Trophies were competed for last Sunday.

The format is a medal foursomes.

The Famous Grouse trophy is presented to the best nett scorers and, this year, they were the team of Kevin Maleary and Gus Rusbridge, with 73 nett.

The best gross scorers were awarded the Greybeard Trophy.

Hamish Stubbs and Simon O’Brien had that honour, shooting 80.

Frinton’s ladies got through another round of the Mail on Sunday competition with a big win over Harwich.

Led by lady captain Judy Taylor, they were victorious, 5-0.

The final of the Bill Cook Salver, otherwise known as the Winter League, was played recently and Rusbridge had another good win, with partner Brian Foskew. There was a three-person team Texas Scramble just before the AGM.

It was tough going, with rain for the first few holes, and a constant chilly north wind.

The field was full and the team of Stubbs, Jack Brooker and James Taggart won with a nett score of 63.2.

In second place were Gary Zetter, Adrian Joshua and Richard Lewis, with 64.8.
