SUZANNE Warren powered her way into two finals at the British Para-Swimming International Meet, in Glasgow.

The Holland-on-Sea swimmer also retained her number one ranking, following success in her three chosen events in the S5 classification.

Competing in her second international event, she reached the A finals in both the 50 metres butterfly and backstroke.

And an added bonus was clocking a personal best (PB) in the butterfly.

“The Meet was a real success,” said Warren, who represents the East Region and holds six British records.

“Making two finals at this level of competition was a massive achievement.

“It was especially pleasing to gain a PB in my butterfly race.

“I’ve made so much progress in the 100m and 200m, having recorded British records. But for some reason, the 50m butterfly has proved challenging.

“To get the time at an international event and set a three-second PB was a great achievement and something I’ve been striving for for some time.”

Warren qualified for the 50m butterfly A final with a personal best (PB) time of one minute and 2.99 seconds.

She then produced a solid performance in the final and touched with a time that was slightly slower than her heat but still under her previous PB.

Warren also enjoyed success in the 50m backstroke, which has already brought her success at elite level competitions.

She qualified for the A final in fourth place with a time of 59.40s, behind three strong and experienced swimmers who have Paralympic golds, world and European medals.

In the final she placed fifth – proving she is still the fastest British swimmer in the S5 classification.

Warren’s other event in the Meet – which attracted some of the best swimmers from around the world – was the 200m individual medley and she completed her race in 5m 46s.

Since her classification, she has lost leg kick in breaststroke, making this section a real challenge and the reason she was unable to challenge her PB time.

However, she can be proud of her achievement as she was the only S5 swimmer in the UK to qualify.

“I’m in need of a rest now, due to the exhaustion and stress of four intense days of competition,” said Warren.

“However, I’ll soon be back in training for the East Region Championships, in June.

“And I’m also hoping to compete in another long-course event before the short-course season begins.

“It’s being hosted by the City of Norwich Swimming Club and I’m determined to add to my current collection of six British records.”
