FC CLACTON manager David Coyle has admitted being frustrated by his side’s lack of activity.

The Seasiders were left kicking their heels again last weekend following the postponement of their Thurlow Nunn League premier division derby at home to Stanway Rovers.

And with no scheduled fixture this weekend either, it means the club’s first team have only played four league fixtures since Coyle was appointed in late October.

“We’re working on things in training and want the chance to put them into practice on a Saturday afternoon,” said the Clacton boss, who was previously in charge from 2007 until 2010.

“But we’re not getting the chance to do that and it’s very disappointing.

“By the time we move on to the next thing we need to improve on, we’ve forgotten the last bit because we haven’t been able to apply it in a match.

“That’s the reality of this level of football but it’s frustrating for me because I’ve only been back in the job a few weeks.

“In my last season here, we were so successful – doing well in the league but also through the first few rounds of the cup competitions – and that meant playing every Saturday and Tuesday.

“This time it’s the complete opposite and it’s a shame because we’re all in this for the same reason – to see football on a Saturday afternoon.

“I’m no different and just want to turn up and see a game. That’s what we all get a buzz from.”

Clacton and Stanway were set to meet in a Thurlow Nunn League premier division derby at the Rush Green Bowl.

However, heavy rain late last week left the match in doubt and an inspection was called for 9am on Saturday morning.

The game was then called off shortly afterwards – much to the disappointment of both camps.

Coyle said: “It was a real shame but there was just too much standing water in one part of the pitch.

“Saturday’s weather was cold and there was no wind, so they weren’t exactly drying conditions.

“It was disappointing because we wanted to play and it was a big local derby that everyone was looking forward to.

“On the back of a good win last week, and their strong form, it would have been nice to go head-to-head with one of our rivals and see where we’re at, in terms of improvement. But as is so often the case with our ground, when the bad weather comes we’re normally on the receiving end and unfortunately it put paid to Saturday.”

Clacton trained in the morning and Coyle then took the opportunity to watch his side’s next opponents – Wivenhoe Town – pip Gorleston 2-1, at the Maple Tree Cars Stadium.

“It was a good chance to see them, although it was hard to learn much because of the state of the pitch,” he said.

“Neither side could put too many passes together but it was good to have a look of certain individuals and see another game at this level, to see how other teams do things.”

Clacton visit the Dragons on December 27 and their next match back at the Bowl is against Mildenhall, on January 3.
