HEARTY golfers defied the conditions to play in the ever-popular turkey trot competition at Frinton Golf Club.

The course was in excellent condition, due to the recent drainage work, but the players got wet at the end on the morning.

A foursomes event, there were separate prizes for mixed and all men’s teams and the winners received vouchers generously donated by Frinton Road Butchers, in Holland-on-Sea.

Leading the mixed teams, Peter Outtridge and Deborah Tanner were in first place, with 30 stableford points. Margaret Dean and Colin Marsh came second, with 29, and third place went to Roger and Sheila Attrill, with 28.

Simon O’Brien and Joe Bushell did the men proud with a respectable 35-point score to come in first.

There were four teams with 33 points, but second place was awarded on countback to Alan Rusbridge and Brian Foskew, ahead of Michael Coffey and John Connor.

The ladies played a foursomes competition over 18 holes.

Jan Wright and Jan McLellan proved the winning combination with 27 stableford points, reflecting the tough playing conditions.

The captains did well.

Lady captain Judy Taylor and vice-captain Tracey Taylor were a close second with 26 points.

Judy Little and Ginny Richardson were in third place, on countback, with 25, just ahead of Linda Hayles and Marie Ellis.
