ALEX Davies has a major carrot heading into tonight’s UK Championship encounter against Aditya Mehta.
The Clacton snooker professional knows that if he beats his Indian opponent, he could face a second-round tussle against former world number one Judd Trump - live on BBC TV.
First Davies must beat Mehta in their best-of-11 frames contest, while Trump - a former World Championship finalist who won the 2011 UK Championship - faces China’s Rouzi Maimaiti.
Both matches get under way at 7.30pm.
And if both win their respective opening-round matches, they will meet on Saturday night at the York Barbican.
