TENDRING Volleyball Club’s women’s team have never been stronger, according to proud coach Nick Davies.

The Frinton side have started the National League division one campaign with two victories, most recently Saturday’s 3-1 success against Oxford Students.

It came hot on the heels of their opening win, by the same score, at Herts VC.

And Davies, whose side were promoted as champions last season, says his squad have taken to the higher level like a duck to water.

“Our squad has changed drastically over the summer break,” he said.

“We’ve recruited eight new players. Some we’ve attracted through promotion and others have come to us through the sport scholarship programme at Essex University.

“Consequently our squad is stronger than it’s ever been and the challenge for us now is to ensure we come together as a group.

“I’m very excited about the potential this squad has.

“We’re only going to get better and better the more we play together.”

New signing Kearby Benak, who won the most valued player (MVP) award, following 13 attack wins and two block wins, felt a team ethic was the key to Saturday’s victory.

“It felt like a team effort,” she said.

“Everyone played their part and this is only the beginning.”
