A NEW netball academy is being launched in Tendring.

Coastal Storms will run coaching sessions in schools, in addition to holding holiday camps.

They hope to get as many girls as possible involved in netball, whether as a regular fun activity or competitively.

And they also plan to start their own club, from November.

The family-run academy is being spearheaded by head coach Karen and daughter Faye.

Both are qualified coaches and together they have 11 years of coaching experience.

Karen has coached to county standard, while Faye also used to be in the Essex set-up.

“Since moving away from our previous club, we’ve realised the need for netball in the Tendring area,” said Karen.

“We’re aware that it used to be a popular sport throughout the district and would like to bring it back.

“We’ll be coaching in schools, holding holiday camps and we’re planning to start our new club from Monday, November 3.

“Next season we’re aiming to bring the competitive side back to netball and enter a league.”

Coastal Storms are holding their first holiday camp on October 30, at Clacton Coastal Academy, in Jaywick Lane.

They are very grateful to Simon Archer Plumbing and Heating for sponsoring the T-shirts players will be given at the camp.

Club training will be on a weekly basis, from 6pm until 7pm, at Clacton Coastal Academy.

Coastal Storms Netball Academy is open to all abilities and girls aged from six to 17. Anyone interested in becoming a part of the academy can e-mail Faye on coastalstormsnetballacademy @aol.co.uk
