FORMER Clacton schoolboy Mike Haywood is hungry for more rugby success after celebrating a league and European double.

The 22-year-old, who previously lived in Agincourt Road and went to Tendring Technology College, in Frinton, played his part as Northampton Saints won both the Aviva Premiership and European Challenge Cup, in addition to reaching the LV Cup final.

He has established himself as a key player at the Franklin’s Gardens club and is already setting his sights on further success in 2014/15.

“It was an amazing season and winning trophies was something the club hadn’t managed for a while,” said the former Colchester Rugby Club player.

“It was great for the club and our fans and, from a personal point of view, something I thoroughly enjoyed.

“I started a few games, learnt so much and really developed as a player.

“Hopefully I can build on it next season and we can continue to improve, both individually and collectively.

“That will certainly be my aim, as I’m still one of the younger players.

“I had a shoulder injury towards the end of the season but it’s fixed now, after surgery, so I’m going to enjoy the break and then come back refreshed later this month.”
