IT’S the end of an era for Clacton Golf Club.
After 34 years as head professional, Stuart Levermore is taking a well-earned retirement.
Levermore, who was appointed on January 1, 1980, has had a wonderful career, not only as a first-rate club professional but also as a player.
He played on the fledgling European Tour and finished 44th in the Open Championship.
He was also East Anglian Open champion in 1980 and won both the Essex PGA Professional Championship and the Essex PGA Matchplay Championship.
In 1990, Levermore was responsible for redesigning the club’s course, to bring it up to a standard appreciated by today’s golfers.
He will still help the club and its members as he is being made an honorary life member, for his outstanding services.
Clacton’s new head professional will be Michael Goodwin.
