FORMER Essex cricketer Mervyn Westfield has been given the green light to join Frinton.

The bowler has been serving a ban, as part of his punishment for being embroiled in a spot-fixing scandal.

However, the suspension has now been lifted and he is “free to resume a career in recreational cricket”, with effect from April 1.

Westfield is now due to join ambitious Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship side Frinton.
