Two-goal Billy provides plenty of food for thought

BILLY Wales has given FC Clacton boss Ray Turner “food for thought” after scoring twice for the club’s second string on Tuesday night.

The midfielder netted two excellent goals to help his side fight back to draw 2-2 against Witham Town, in the Thurlow Nunn Reserve League.

Both sides fielded strong teams, with the likes of Liam Springett, Aaron Keaney, Ed Wootten and Mark White also turning out for the Seasiders.

But it was Wales who stole the limelight with a performance that boosts his chances of starting Saturday’s first-team fixture at home to top-of-the-table Wisbech.

“They were two outstanding finishes from Billy,” said Turner, who took charge of the team along with new assistant Glenn Eldridge, following this week’s resignation of reserve-team boss Simon Lee.

“Technically, there aren’t too many better and he’s got a great touch and a wand of a left foot.

“But the problem, for me, is that when he plays in central midfield or out on the left, he often goes missing.

“For long spells you wonder where he is but now, based on his performance in midweek, it seems his best position is playing in a free role just off the front man.

“We may have found his best position and it’s given me plenty of food for thought for Saturday.”
