White adds another title to his growing collection

RUPERT White was among the winners when more than a hundred sailors descended on Brightlingsea Sailing Club for Regfest 2012.

The annual Catamaran extravaganza combined the UK National Championships for the Hurricane, Spitfire and Shadow classes with open meetings for three other Cats classes.

Strong and blustery winds created challenging conditions for even the most gung-ho competitors and kept the safety boat crews busy all weekend.

Brightlingsea’s White was successful in the Spitfire National Championship.

He was looking to add to his two world titles this year and was competing with Nichola Boniface.

The testing conditions were just what he was hoping for.

The racing was close all weekend but the pair steadily built a commanding lead over the chasing pack, which was very tightly bunched behind them.

The battle for second and third places went right down to the last race, with John Hutchings and Gilly Green (Pagham Sailing Club) just holding off Millie Newman (Brightlingsea) and Tim Carter.
