Levermore sets sights on regaining Skins title

FORMER champions Jason Levermore and Andrew Pestell have a spring in their step as they bid to recapture the Skins PGA Fourball Championship.

After a lean two years in which they failed to qualify, the duo from Clacton and Chelmsford Golf Clubs respectively have rediscovered the form they hope will take them to a repeat of their success four years ago.

The pair are among a number of PGA East Region professionals in action at the £30,000 tournament, which is contested over 54 holes at Forest Pines Hotel and Golf Club, from next Wednesday until next Friday.

Levermore, who is already assured victory in the East Region Order of Merit, revealed the duo were on the verge of calling time on their partnership, had they not managed to qualify this time round.

“We won the final in 2008, finished seventh the year after and then failed to qualify for two years in a row,” said Levermore.

“In fact, we said that if we didn’t make it to Forest Pines this year, we’d split up as a team and find new playing partners for next year.

“But we got through so we’re still around and hoping to do well again.

“I think we got a bit complacent if I’m honest.

“We probably thought we just had to turn up and we’d get through, but that’s not how it turned out.

“I’ve had a good year in the East Region and hopefully I can take some of that form to Forest Pines.”
