Extra-time heartache as Seasiders crash out of Vase
7:55am Sunday 16th September 2012 in Sport By Matt Plummer
FC Clacton are out of the FA Vase after losing 3-2 at Whitton United.
Saturday's second qualifying round tie went to extra-time, with the Seasiders unlucky to lose after battling back from 2-0 down.
Whitton were firmly in the driving seat thanks to goals after ten minutes and then again midway through the first half.
But Jake Clowsley smashed a shot into the top corner from outside the box to bring the tie to life.
And skipper Tom Austin headed a last-gasp equaliser seven minutes into injury time to necessitate an additional 30 minutes.
The tie stayed all-square until Whitton scored again to set up their home tie with Brightlingsea Regent.
