Kirk frustrated by washed out fixtures

Clacton's cricketers are going “stir crazy” as a result of their record-breaking run of four straight cancellations.

The club’s opening matches of the new season have all been washed out because of the recent wet weather.

No play was possible in their Gibbs Denley East Anglian Premier League certain-raiser against Swardeston and the same fate then befell their matches against Vauxhall Mallards, Bury St Edmunds and Sudbury, last Saturday.

Team manager Gary Kirk says the soggy situation is the worst he has known in 35 years with the Seasiders.

“It’s like the tide has come in and washed through Clacton,” he said.

The Seasiders hope to get their campaign under way at Great Witchingham on Saturday.
