Walton make a flying start to the new year

WALTON made a great start to the new year after roaring to a 9-3 victory at home to Colchester Town in the Essex Men’s Darts Superleague.

The pairs started with Walton on top form as Ben Austin (25.17) and the very impressive Robert Emery (32.24, comb 28.60) won in just 35 darts against Darron Britton and Robert Seager (comb 23.86).

Andrew Currivan (22.38) and Tony Starbrook (22.10, comb 22.24) made it 2-0 with a comfortable victory against Mark Gregory and Kevin Lewis (comb 12.86).

Walton were soon 3-0 up as Alan Currivan (33.38) scored heavily and finished on 116 with partner Ken Russell (16.67, comb 25.67), as they defeated Robert Mitchell and Steve Western (comb 21.69).

The last pairs saw Colchester take their first set of the night as Tony Saunders (21.11) and Nick Grainger (15.37, comb 18.24) struggled but just lost out to Paul McDermott and Michael Blinman (comb 19.25).

Tony Starbrook (18.79) kept the ball rolling for Walton with another comfortable 3-0 victory over Kevin Lewis (16.37).

Kevin Savory (20.76) scored well but lost out on a big average with a few missed doubles, but Savory stuck with it all the way to the fifth leg against Robert Mitchell (20.66), where Savory pulled out a very impressive 118 finish to claim a 3-2 victory.

Adrian Joshua (22.77), making his home debut, looked very steady again as he went 2-0 up with legs of 19 and 20 and soon walked away with a 3-0 victory against Steve Western (19.82), securing at least a point for Walton with the scoreline now 6-1.

Next up was Emery (18.97), who had shots at doubles to win 3-0 but lost out 3-1 to Colchester’s current top player in the averages/wins Britton (21.46).

Then Andrew Currivan (28.36) produced the game of the night with a superb display, winning 3-0 against McDermott (20.69) with winning legs of 16, 17 and 20, also nearly checking out on 170 along the way as he just missed the bullseye.

However, the win was secured with the man-of-the-match perfomance.

Ben Austin (21.80) scored well but rued missed doubles as he let chances go that could have seen him win 3-0.

Instead he lost out 3-0 to Colchester’s man-of-the-match Gregory (22.77).

Russell (19.52) made it 8-3 to Walton with a comfortable 3-0 victory against Seager (16.26).

The last game of the night saw an indifferent game for Alan Currivan (17.89) as he went 2-0 up, despite 23 missed darts at the double.

However, he did make amends by winning the next leg in 15 darts to cap the night off well with a 3-0 victory against Blinman (15.10), for a 9-3 victory for Walton and also 6-0 in the 1:6:12 League.
