We conceded in the last minute to draw 3-3 with Aveley on Tuesday night and I think it was a fair result.

The way we conceded was disappointing - it was the best way for them to draw and the worst way for us to draw. It was two good attacking teams and it could have gone either way. Neither team deserved to lose.

Aveley were exactly what I expected them to be. Not many teams are as dangerous going forward and we were second best for a lot of the first half. We showed great character to get our noses ahead and, having gone ahead, we controlled it for large parts and restricted Aveley to what we wanted.

We know we are a reasonably good team but any manager will tell you wait until you are 10/15 games in to make a judgement.

The three goals we scored were constructed well. They were all prepared so my disappointment is how we’ve defended as in the first half they wanted it more and that is unusual. Aveley had an underdog mentality which is perhaps something we have got to get accustomed to. We needed to raise our game and be competitive.

We play Hemel Hempstead in the FA Cup on Saturday and their old manager Dean Brennan has just moved to Billericay.

I think that hinders our preparation. Clearly there are changes at Hemel that we cannot prepare for. The reality is we have to focus on ourselves and be a lot better without the ball than we were against Aveley if we are to get anything from that game.

It is a monumental ask but let’s put in into perspective. We would be an underdog against a team in the division above us but you would feel like you might have a chance

The leap to National League South football is huge. Having said that it’s the first time we have had a chance to test ourselves against an opponent of that ilk at home so I am looking forward to it.

But if things go our way on the day anything can happen.
