CLACTON Golf Club held their annual Men’s Club Championship.

A full field competed for the five trophies up for grabs and the 2018 champion was Nick Tedder-Ward.

He triumphed with a gross score of 144 (70 in the morning and 74 in the afternoon).

In second place was Matt Baker and in third was Tom Heffer.

The gold division winner was Craig James, the silver division winner was Harvey Bell, the bronze division one winner was Gary Harms and the bronze division two winner Lee Bettis.

Elsewhere, Clacton's ladies' Harris Bowl team, captained by Sonja Strutt, travelled to Cannons Brook.

It was their fourth match of the year and, luckily, the temperature was slightly cooler than last week.

The intermittent rain showers were a refreshing welcome.

However, it was still very warm and the course conditions were extremely dry. The ladies played well but lost against strong opposition. The result was a 4-1 loss.

The Clacton team was Fiona Cope, Judy Speck, Heather Bradfield, Lin Euston and Jackie Bright.

Their last match is tomorrow, away to Woolston Manor.

Clacton's ladies also played for the Lady Captain's Rosebowl.

In first place, leading the way, was Linda Hargreaves, with 37 points.

Second place was decided on countback, with Sue Gurry just edging out Strutt, both with 34 points.

Clacton juniors Wilf Elliott and Jake Wells travelled to Rochford for the Essex Under-16 Boys' Championship.

Over 40 competitors took part, with Wells producing a tremendous effort to finish in first place in the under-16 category and third in the under-18.

Clacton's juniors held their Club Championship and, recovering from his county disappointment earlier in the week, Elliott was able to put the result behind him and take the coveted junior club champion title for 2018.

Under-16s county champion Wells was unable to repeat his form from earlier in the week but did manage to win the junior gold division trophy.

The 2018 silver division winner was Samuel Bruce and the bronze division winner was Cameron Curtis.

James Wright won the Handicappers Trophy.

Clacton's seniors travelled to Colchester for an Inter-Club match.

However, they were outplayed by the home team and went down by two and a half to five and a half.

In another Inter-Club match, the seniors hosted a very strong Benton Hall team.

The visitors played the conditions and the weather very well and were worthy winners by six and a half to one and a half.

Captain Rick Hale would like to thank all the players who turned out for the seniors in these two matches.
