FC CLACTON assistant boss Ade Webster is backing the club’s new strikers to make an impact next season – and believes they have made the team more mobile and dynamic.

Adam Hampson and Karl Andrade have both been recruited during the summer and netted in Tuesday’s impressive 3-2 victory against Brightlingsea Regent.

Former R’s midfielder Harry McDonald has also been drafted into the squad and was on target in the pre-season friendly at the Taydal Stadium.

Experienced Webster believes the trio will make a huge difference and admits that at times last season, the side were too “static” in the final third.

“(Manager) Tommy (Austin) is putting together a side that appears to have more mobility up front,” said the former Colchester United player.

“Last year we were a little static, at times, and that was one of the areas we wanted to address.

“Now we’ve become more dynamic and if you look at the three who played in attack, their movement was excellent.

“We were playing a step three side and still caused them problems.

“When you talk about front players, movement is vital and hopefully now we’ve got players who can come in and do the job.

“Tommy’s putting a good little squad together and the boys were buzzing after Tuesday night.”

Hampson and McDonald scored in quick succession in the first half to give Clacton a 2-0 lead.

George Keys halved the deficit but Andrade’s volley restored the two-goal deficit, before Keys notched again to make it 3-2.

The Seasiders managed to see out the game to record an eye-catching win, though.

Webster said: “You always look at these games as a challenge – as a bit of a cup final.

“Brightlingsea play a couple of levels higher than us and we always knew it was going to be tough.

“There’s still one or two things we need to work on but one of the most pleasing things was the fact we saw the game out.

“There were a couple of games last season when we were the better side and couldn’t do that, which was disappointing.”

Tuesday’s win was Clacton’s third pre-season success from five games, having previously defeated Colne Athletic and Little Oakley.

They also drew 2-2 at Stanway Rovers last Thursday – Hampson and Andrade scored again - and are undefeated since losing 4-0 at Bostik League side Aveley in their opening friendly on July 5.

Next up for Clacton is Saturday’s Tolleshunt D’Arcy Memorial Cup tie at Wormingford Wanderers.

The Thurlow Nunn League premier division campaign then gets underway at Hadleigh United next Friday (August 3).
