EXACTLY 100 Clacton golfers competed for the St Helena Hospice Salver.

There were three separate competitions in one, with no one player allowed to win more than one trophy.

The overall winner of the St Helena Hospice Salver, on countback, was Lee Hawkins, from Paul Flower, both with great scores of nett 63.

In third place, with an equally good score, was Perry Bettis, with a nett 65.

The winner of the Charles Blackwell Trophy, for best gross score, went to Matt Baker, playing off scratch with a gross two under 69.

The final trophy went to Steve Yates, who won the Brian Everitt Cup for the best gross score from the ten to 14 handicap group.

Elsewhere, Clacton's ladies played for the America Cup.

A strong field saw Angela Barratt take the title with a nett 71.

In second place, with a nett 72, was Di Kedge and two shots back in third place with a nett 74 was Judy Speck.

Clacton's Pheasant Plucker’s invited the ladies' section to play in a mixed Texas Scramble.

The overall winners were Marilyn Bates, Jim Bligh, Pam Richmond and Lou Barratt.

Clacton's juniors played for the Vertigen Trophy.

James Wright just edged out Henry Goodwin on countback, after both returned 40 points.

Third place went to Jay Foley, with 38 points.

Clacton's seniors played the home leg of the two-match Hambro competition against Playgolf Colchester.

After winning relatively comfortably at home, the team could not offset the heavy defeat they had earlier in the year at Colchester.

Playgolf retained the trophy they had put up.

Malcolm Pitcher’s over-55 seniors stormed into the semi-finals of the Essex Knockout Cup, beating Stock Brook Manor 7½ to 3½.

The Clacton team was Ray Fage, Danny Thomas, Paul Euston, Richard Burrell, John Herbert, Dave Gilbert, Steve Yates, Peter Hewett, Alan Waddup, captain Pitcher and Phil Tipple.

The seniors held their annual guest day and the overall winners, with 48 points, were Nigel Martin and guest Peter Collins.

In second place were Jim Wiggam and guest Glen Broadbent, on countback from Robert Seggie and guest Keith Banks.

Both pairs finished with 46 points.

In fourth place, also with 46 points, again on countback, were Bill Thompson and guest Terry Brewer.

Nearest the pin on the seventh went to Roger Toane, from Stoke by Nayland, and nearest the pin on the 17th to Clacton’s Peter Cross.

£157 was raised on the day for the captain's charity.
