A FUN time was had by all at Clacton's annual beach event on the golden sands of Martello Bay.

Eight-five people representing 20 teams took part in Saturday's tournament, ranging from families and some in fancy dress to professionals and past and present England players.

There was a fantastic variety and, after a day of great fun under the scorching sun, the winning team in the mixed division were Beach Sets, from Brentwood - Maria Sanders, Daniel Sanders, Rebecca Mayo and Andre Segnini.

Ball Bashers were second and their team comprised Frinton's Douglas Garner, Casey Brown and Daniel Ursell and Clacton sisters Bethany and Georgia Ibbotson.

Beauty and the East were third.

There was also a men's competition and the winning team had a strong international flavour.

It was called The Camel Looking Horse and made up of American Colleen King, Frenchman Bastien Chabe-Ferrett, Argentinian Gabriel Facchini and British pair Mechell Daniel and Charlotte Bontems, all from Colchester.

Notorious DIG (Sonny Chaney, Jack Bruce, Conor Walker and Lewis Fenech) were second and Hussars third.

Special mention goes to The Waikiki's and Ace Breakers n Loompa's for their fancy dress.

Next year there will be a prize for the best fancy dress team and a date has already been fixed - Saturday, July 13.

Tendring chairman Alex Porter said: "It was a great day.

"Everyone had fun, the weather was great and the games were really competitive, without any whitewashes.

"Tendring District Council also deserve a special thank you for raking the beach for us first thing in the morning, which was much appreciated."
