HOLLAND FC assistant manager Steve Davis is hoping Terry Rymer and Billy Wales decide to commit to the Eastcliff side.

The pair recently parted company with FC Clacton and played for Holland in their opening pre-season friendly at Tiptree Park.

Rymer scored both goals in a 2-0 victory, on Monday night.

Neither have signed forms and Wales' work commitments could affect his availability but Davis is hoping they decide to stay and expects them to turn out again in Saturday's home friendly against Felixstowe and Walton.

"(Manager) Rob (Batten) and I know Terry well," said Davis.

"When he's settled and buying into what you're trying to do, you get exactly what you want from him.

"He needs to work on his fitness, as he'd be the first to admit, but I've always liked him because he's got such an eye for goal.

"He knows the league well, knows what's needed to be successful and he's also a great character to have around.

"Billy played 90 minutes for us on Tuesday.

"We're hopeful he's going to stay and be part of our plans next season.

"His work commitments could affect his availability but there are a few more local games in our division so we'd hope he could get to the majority.

"If so, he'll become a key player because he's such an intelligent footballer and professional character to have around.

"He's great in the warm-ups and in the dressing room and he's the kind of player others want to play alongside.

"In terms of local football, he's a big name and a bit of a role model and we're hoping him signing will have a domino effect whereby others will be encouraged to do likewise."

Steve Downes, another former Clacton player, also featured against Tiptree and will be part of the playing squad next season as dad Richard has joined the coaching team at Holland.

Jack Fuller managed 45 minutes as he continues his comeback from a long-term knee injury while Davis was also impressed with winger Jimmy Webb.

"We took a strong squad over there, despite having six or seven missing, and while it wasn't exactly a pretty game, there were lots of positives," he said.

"One of the biggest, in my opinion, was Jimmy's performance.

"He was dazzling with the ball at his feet and from what I've seen so far, including training, he's one of the most technically-gifted players I've seen in local football.

"He's going to cause no end of problems next season because he's got so many tricks."

Saturday's match against Felixstowe will take place on one of the outside pitches at Eastcliff.

"It'll be a good test, to see where we're at fitness and ability-wise against Bostik League players," added Davis.

Meanwhile, the draw has been made for the early rounds of next season's FA Vase.

In the first qualifying round on September 1, Holland have been handed a home date with Cornard United.

If they get through, they will travel to Codicote on September 15.
