CLACTON Golf Club captain Alfie Smith took a side to Maldon to compete for the Pisa Cup.

However, they were not strong enough and the hosts ran out comfortable winners.

Meanwhile, Clacton's men played for the Victory Cup.

A strong field of nearly a hundred went out in windy conditions and the final result saw one shot separate the top four.

Chay Robinson won on countback from Mark Hulstrom, both with nett 67s.

Third place went to Brady Diplock, on countback from David Wilding, both with nett 68s.

Clacton's ladies held their Club Championship.

A strong field went out for the gruelling 36-hole championship and, after 18 holes, there was all to play for.

Good friends but rivals Faye Trigg (76) and reigning champion Katy Yates (77) were in first and second places in the morning.

In the afternoon, Yates matched her morning score of 77 but Trigg stumbled, shooting an 80.

Yates therefore won by two shots.

In a very creditable third place was Hoon Locke.

Results: Club champion - Katy Yates; Silver division winner - Faye Trigg; Bronze division winner – Angela Barratt; Handicap winner - Hoon Locke.

Clacton's seniors travelled to Colne Valley for an inter-club match and captain Rick Hale led his team to a 3½-2½ win over Colne.

The seniors travelled to Gosfield Lake to play in the Team Challenge.

Losing a player at the last moment meant the team had to play a man short.

Unfortunately, they were unable to repeat the previous day's success but everyone enjoyed the day.
