FRINTON Cricket Club skipper Kyran Young believes his side have momentum behind them heading into Saturday's crunch clash with Cambridge Granta.

The team put their recent defeat against Swardeston behind them to win by one wicket at Mildenhall last weekend, gleaning a full 25 points.

It has left them fourth in the Gibbs Denley East Anglian Premier League table, ahead of Saturday's match against Granta (11am start).

The Cambridge side sit three places and ten points behind so there is plenty at stake in the Ashlyns Road showdown.

"The pressure's still on but it's nice that we head into another important game with a bit of momentum behind us," said Young, who returned stunning bowling figures of six for 48 in his 12 overs.

"It was a great way to bounce back and, after losing the previous week, we couldn't afford to slip up again.

"It was nice to get a few wickets, of course, but the most important thing is always the team.

"We're all striving for the same thing and after a really close game, all that matters is the fact we got over the line.

"Michael Comber was the one who made the early inroads at the other end.

"He got their top two players in the first over and that really set the tempo."

After winning the toss and electing to field, Frinton made a dream start when Comber his early breakthroughs.

Mildenhall was reeling at 15 for four but recovered to 102 for five and were eventually all out for 179.

Dan Carter and Lewis Catlow also took wickets.

In reply, Comber (48 not out) and opener Tom Sinclair (43) led the way as Frinton got over the line in the 58th over.

"It was a very close game but shouldn't have been that way, to be honest," added Young, who welcomes back former Essex man Mervyn Westfield for Saturday's date with Granta.

"We should have bowled them out for around 110, instead of 179.

"Then when it came to us batting, we were one more partnership away from putting the final nail in their coffin.

"Mildenhall deserve credit, though.

"They toiled hard and stayed in the game."

Meanwhile, Frinton's second team won by 44 runs at home to Ipswich, in Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship division one on Saturday.

James Baker (80 not out) and Sam Brynes (50) guided them to a total of 201 for six from their 50 overs.

Baker and Brynes then starred with the ball, taking three wickets apiece, as Ipswich were all out for 157.

Nick Patel and Tom Lawes both chipped in with three wickets.

The second team make the short trip to Tendring rivals Mistley on Saturday (1pm start).
