WALTON and Frinton Yacht Club held the second race in their Winter Series.

Martin Jenkins emerged victorious after a contest that took place in lovely evening sunshine and a pleasant force three breeze.

Race officer Alec Moss set a good course with a nicely challenging start, making it a difficult choice for the competitors to choose their place on the line.

Simon Hipkin was sailing a borrowed Phantom and determined to continue the winning streak he has enjoyed in a borrowed Hadron.

Jenkins, on his Phantom, led the fleet away, with Hipkin in close pursuit.

Recent race winner Dom Philips retired soon after the start with gear failure.

The course took the fleet up river to the Hedge End buoy and then up and down the River Twizzle.

Jenkins led throughout, while Hipkin hung on closely and finished less than a minute behind.

Geoff Parker, in his Hadron, sailed an excellent race and finished just seven seconds behind Hipkin on handicap.

The next race in the series is on Friday, June 22.
