CHAIRMAN Peter White reflected on a satisfactory 2017/18 season at the Clacton and District League's AGM.

It had seen good competition in all divisions, another top-class cup final and an excellent Closed Championships.

He thanked the management committee for their support, particularly coaching officer Felipe Rodriguez and treasurer Mike Hillier, both of whom were standing down after many years of service.

In her secretary's report, Lyn White thanked those who had attended the social evening at The Firs to celebrate 80 years of league table tennis.

Treasurer Hillier reported on a satisfactory financial year, with the balance sheet showing a small surplus.

Press and records secretary Tony Oswick said the league had gone well, despite a problematic start.

He thanked Roger Hance for his excellent photographs and acknowledged the help of Gazette sports editor Matt Plummer.

TT365 administrator Gavin Price reported that TT365 continued to be popular with players and supporters.

In his tournament officer's report, Graham Parkes said both the Closed Championships, again sponsored by Paul Newbould, and Handicap Singles had been successes.

Development officer Ferdy Rodriguez said last season's 'come and try' sessions had been disappointing.

However, the quiz had raised over £200.

As junior match secretary, Ferdy Rodriguez reported that Clacton's Sam Hume, Ethan Lloyd, Scott Campbell and Daniel Young had won the Essex Junior Inter-League competition.

Coaching officer Felipe Rodriguez said the coaching sessions had continued on Monday evenings at the Coastal Academy with numbers varying.

The Bob Phillips Trophy for services to the league was made to Felipe Rodriguez.

The chairman said being coaching officer required total commitment and Felipe, who had done the job for 12 years, was the league's longest-serving coaching officer.

The Brian Hogg Trophy went to 13-year old Daniel Young.

Daniel had only been playing for two years but had shown exceptional improvement, as well as setting a good example of behaviour on and off the table.

Peter White also announced that Jenny Higgins was to become a vice-president.

Jenny had played in the league for over 50 years and was a loyal servant of the league, as well as a mainstay of the Windsor club.

Trophies for 2017/18 were presented by president Shirley Rowlen to division one winners Nomads Panthers, runners-up Walton A, division two winners Lawford, runners-up Nomads Tigers, division three winners Brotherhood G and runners-up Windsor Penguins.

Officers elected for 2018/19 were: President, Shirley Rowlen; Chairman, Peter White; Vice-Chairman, Graham Parkes; Secretary, Lyn White; Treasurer, John Barton; Press and Records Secretary, Tony Oswick; Tournament Officer, Graham Parkes; Development Officer, Ferdy Rodriguez; Coaching Officer, vacant; Minutes Secretary, Isabel Barton; TT365 Administrator, Gavin Price; Committee members, Doug Green, Jenny Higgins, Tony Hooper, , Mark Gale, Jason Lloyd, Felipe Rodriguez, Gill Locke; Independent Financial Examiner, Ray Chillingworth.
