ST Osyth Boxing Club's season finale saw four bouts scheduled at the Sandwich Boxing Club Show, with Tyler and Ashley Upchurch along with Yarik Chervonyy and Jake Godderidge matched to fight.

During the week before the show the both of the Upchurchs' opposition pulled out, leaving the Toosey boys dissatisfied that their hard training was left untested.

More disappointment came on the day of the show when, after the weigh-in, Chervonyy's bout was called off by the official in charge due to a 3kg weight difference.

This was a bitter blow for the St Osyth lad, who had travelled from his university in Liverpool to compete.

So it was left to Godderidge to fly the flag in his second competitive bout and he did not disappoint despite facing a really tough opponent from Margate.

The Kent fighter was much more experienced and proved to have a real different style to that which Godderidge was used too.

From round one, the Margate lad came out with all guns blazing throwing hard and fast hooks.

Godderidge decided to stand and trade blows, which resulted in a fairly even first round.

The second was very similar from the Kent lad, with Godderidge starting to move and box with more confidence, working on the inside as well as using the jab with his reach advantage showing.

Round three was to be the round where Godderidge showed that fitness and boxing will conquer against a hard-hitting less technical approach to the sport.

This round was dominated by Godderidge and was possibly the two minutes that swayed the judges to return a split decision in favour of the St Osyth lad.

It meant it was two wins from bouts for Godderidge.

St Osyth coaches Siggers and Taylor stated that it was a good win for Godderidge and that he had boxed well, but highlighted how tough this sport is with four boys working so hard to fight but only one making the ring.
