CLACTON Cricket Club captain Imran Sheikh is convinced his side can get back to winning ways - if they keep working hard and stay positive.

The Seasiders have suffered back-to-back defeats, following losses at the hands of Braintree and Haverhill.

The latter came in a Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship division two contest last weekend when the Suffolk side prevailed by 80 runs.

“Our last two games have been against Braintree and Haverhill,” said Sheikh, whose side have a home date with Kelvedon and Feering on Saturday.

“Both proved tough opposition, having been relegated from division one, so they were always going to be testing games.

“However, if we continue to work hard and stay positive, I know the wins will come.”

After winning the toss and electing to field, Clacton restricted Haverhill to 218 for seven after 45 overs.

There were two wickets apiece for Sheikh, Harlan Greig and Ryan Chamberlain.

However, in reply, the Seasiders were all out for 138, with Greig top-scoring with 45.

“It was a tough game,” added Sheikh.

“We won the toss and elected to bowl on a good wicket.

“Brad Pitts got an early break with (Mo) Asghar taking a great catch in the slips, but we were unable to capitalise.

“Haverhill’s batsmen scored freely until the introduction of spinners, when we were able to take control of the game.

“Harlan shone again with the bat and ball, picking up another two wickets and scoring 45.

“However, once again with the bat, we had starts but no-one went on to score big.”
