THERE was a record turnout for Frinton Golf Club's ladies' Spring Meeting.

Fifty-two women took part - the highest number in recent memory.

Many of the new members joined via the Get Into Golf programme, which is a national campaign to recruit new golfers.

With sunshine and little wind, it was a perfect day for it.

There were three categories of winners, with Angela Low first in the silver category, with 34 points.

Judith Little was the first bronze winner, with 35 points, and Helen Barr won the second bronze category, and was the overall winner, with an amazing 42 points.

Overall second place went to Ginny Richardson, with 34, with Jan McLellan third, on countback, at 33.

The afternoon format was a nine-hole Texas Scramble on the Kirby Course.

The winning combination of Linda Hayles, Margaret Dean, Lyn Lawrence and Jan McLellan garnered 25.3 nett.

Judy Taylor, Angela Low, Judith Little and Sheila Attrill were in second place with 25.8.

The men played for the Club Challenge Bowl on Sunday.

This is an 18-hole medal with a maximum handicap of 24.

Wayne Ross was the trophy winner with 67 nett.

Peter Outtridge came in second with 68 and Peter Irwin was in third place with 69 nett.

There was also a Friday stableford, open to all Havers Course members.

Kevin Maleary was back in fine form, winning on countback with 42 points, just ahead of John Rodda.

Peter Webster finished third, with 41.

Terry Mullins and Simon O’Brien won the Saltwood Plate - a foursomes matchplay knockout event played over the winter.

They beat Ian Chamberlain and Chris Ackred in the final, one-up.

The seniors had a win at home against Fynn Valley.

The strong wind and fast greens proved too difficult for the visitors to master. The final score was 6-2 to Frinton.

Finally, congratulations to Nigel Jackson, who scored his first-ever hole-in-one last Saturday.

It was on the sixth hole, 162 yards, using an eight-iron.
