CLACTON'S golfers bowed out of the Thornton Cup.

After a great home win against Upminster, they were eliminated in the second round at Orsett.

Up against one of the strongest teams in the competition, they eventually suffered a heavy but spirited defeat.

Elsewhere, 2017 Essex county champions Faye Trigg and Katy Yates made a powerful start to the defence of their Essex County Munro Foursomes crown.

In the first round, the pair saw off challengers from Stock Brook Manor, in a match played at the neutral venue of Gosfield Park, winning 3&2.

In the second round, they then had a comfortable 7&6 win over a pair from The Rayleigh Club, playing at Benton Hall.

Clacton held their annual mixed open, with over 30 couples from all over Essex taking part in the four ball better ball competition on Sunday.

The eventual winners were Caroline Slagle and John Redden, from Colchester Golf Club.

Clacton's over-55s continued their winning streak, beating Upminster 6.5 to 4.5 in the Essex county competition, and are now awaiting the draw to see who they meet in the last 16.

The club's seniors travelled to Felixstowe and came back with a very creditable draw while in another inter-club match against Frinton, they emerged victorious 5-3.

The seniors then played their third inter-club match of the month against a spirited Forrester Park side.

Once again, home advantage helped, as well as some great individual performances, seeing Clacton take a 6-2 lead.
