FC CLACTON assistant boss Mike Wallace says it is flattering that rival clubs are beginning to sniff around the club's players.

However, he says it is even more satisfying that those in the squad are committed to staying put and helping the team finish as high as possible in the Thurlow Nunn League table.

Jake Plane was the subject of a seven-day approach from a rival premier division outfit within minutes of scoring twice in Saturday's 2-1 success at home to Newmarket Town.

However, he has rejected the offer and wants to stay at the Rush Green Bowl.

"In a way it's very flattering that other clubs are taking notice of our players' achievements," said Wallace, who runs the side with first-team boss Kieron Shelley.

"We're obviously doing the right things because our recent results and performances have been excellent and people are sitting up and taking notice.

"It makes us proud.

"However, we're so pleased that players like Jake want to stay at Clacton.

"He and the rest of the squad are committed for the rest of the season.

"They're not going to walk away and want to help us finish as high in the table as possible.

"They're playing amazingly well at the moment and deserve a lot of credit, both for their performances and also their loyalty.

"Things are going well and the last thing we want is to see our team ripped apart."

Clacton have only lost one of their last 12 Thurlow Nunn League fixtures.
