DAVID Joshua hosted his Captain’s Day at Frinton Golf Club.

Although there was some rain in the morning, it turned into a sunny but windy day, making the conditions challenging.

The morning format was four ball better ball and three teams finished with very respectable scores of 44 points.

First place was awarded to Stuart Grimwade and Peter Outtridge.

They finished ahead of second-placed Paul Mutton and Dan Nicholls on countback, with James Hide and Sam Cook in third.

Club captain David Joshua donned his apron and barbecued some delicious hamburgers and sausages, while wife Audrey Joshua and helpers served up Pimms and other refreshments.

In the afternoon, the Texas Scramble took place with teams of four battling it out over ten holes.

The winning team was made up of John Sowton, Mark Smith, John Harding and Gary Bishop with a score of 32.4.

The ladies played for the Goadby Cup, a bogey competition with a handicap limit of 28 points.

Two ladies finished with scores of -2, with Sheila Attrill awarded first place ahead of Marie Ellis.

Tracey Taylor was third, with -3.

Frinton made it into the Leslie Wood Championship quarter-finals but lost to Nazeing GC.

It was a well-fought match, much of it played in drenching rain.
