SATURDAY sees the annual Clacton Rugby Club beach rugby festival take place on the sands of Martello Bay.

Now in its 13th year, the event is the only one played in East Anglia.

There are only a small handful throughout the whole country, with Clacton laying claim to being the longest running.

It started back in 2005 with only 12 teams taking part but this year there are nearly 30 already registered, with more expected on the day.

As is now customary, the team members will be a complete mix, with youngsters of both sexes playing with and against the older mums and dads.

The aim is to be competitive but to have some fun at the same time and the teams usually buy into that ethos.

Competitors and their supporters will begin to arrive throughout the morning, with the action getting underway around 12pm.
