FC CLACTON stalwart Danny Coyle admitted being surprised and humbled after being nominated for a prestigious Essex FA award.
The Seasiders secretary was shortlisted in the outstanding contribution to community football category.
Although he didn't win, he was proud to be in the running and receive his coveted certificate.
"I was nominated about six weeks ago and the winners were announced last week," said Coyle, the dad of current Clacton player-of-the-year Kevin and former manager David.
"My certificate arrived in the post and was the first I'd heard of it.
"I have no idea who nominated me, but to be nominated is an achievement in itself."
The award was won by Craig Leverington, of Hawkwell Athletic, while the young volunteer of the year was Maldon Saints YFC's James Cole.
