FRINTON Lawn Tennis and Squash Club's mixed A team gained some much-needed points at Dedham.

They won the Colchester and District League contest 6½-2½.

First pair Anne Cosby and Mark Grover won their three sets convincingly, while third pair Julia Holder and Jon Oates also claimed a crucial set.

Amy Buxton played her first game for the mixed A team.

Partnered by veteran Colin Minter, she showed great grit, determination and promise.

The pair won two very closely-contested sets on tie-breaks but, with light fading fast, the two second pairs were unable to complete their third-round match.

They agreed to split the points, with Frinton taking the overall honours 6½-2½.

Captain Cosby said: "Dedham are tough opponents and I'm pleased we secured this win.

"New signing Amy was the star of the show and delivered when it mattered most."

It's still early days in the mixed A season.

However, this win put the team in second place overall.
