ANGELO Harrop could be about to revive his playing career after parting company with Brightlingsea Regent.

The former Stanway Rovers manager joined just before Christmas and took on the role of head coach, working alongside boss James Webster and assistants Chris Smith and Ryan Salter.

However, he has now made the difficult decision to move on, citing the need for a “fresh challenge” and contemplating a return to playing.

Harrop played a key role behind the scenes in his time at Regent, helping the club to the Ryman League division north title – finishing clear at the top by an enormous 12 points.

“It’s been a really tough decision because I’ve loved my time at Brightlingsea,” said the former Colchester United youth-teamer.

“It’s a lovely family club, run by good people, and the success they’ve enjoyed in recent years has been nothing short of amazing.

“Last season, especially, was a massive achievement and the boys were unbelievable.

“I’ll always be grateful for the opportunity to join such an ambitious club after leaving Stanway.

“And I’ve really enjoyed working with everyone there – the players, the chairman, Chris, Ryan and especially James.

“However, after much consideration, I feel I’d like to move on to a fresh challenge.

“I’m still not sure that will be at this stage but I fancy returning to management, having done it for a while and enjoyed success at Stanway.

“I’m also very keen to play again.

“I miss it and still feel I could contribute something on the pitch.

“I’m still fit enough and have the experience to add something to a team, either as a player or a player-manager.”

Harrop became Stanway boss in 2014 and will go down as the club’s most successful manager, leading the club to a mid-table finish in his first season after taking over when the club were languishing in 17th position.

In the following two seasons, Harrop guided the club to third place twice - their highest to date – in addition to record-equalling runs in the FA Vase.

Harrop also coaches at the Colne Football College and holds a UEFA B licence.
